iPhone Backup - A possible solution (part 2)

I recieved an e-mail with additional instructions.  This is a solution that is found to work by other people.

Go into iTunes Edit/Preferences the last tab sync disable auto sync for all iPod and iPhones. This does not fix it it is just the first step do not stop here.

Next connect your iPhone to the computer. Once it shows up in iTunes go into the last tab Applications. Uncheck sync all apps. Now Click apply. Now click sync. it will remove all the applications! After it is finished unplug the iPhone. I bet you will have at least one app still on the Iphone, maybe more. Hold any icon down until they jiggle. tap the x's and delete all the remaing apps. You may notice after you delete each app that a little spinning circle is next to your 3G icon on the top right hand side. Let it finish spinning before you delete the next app.

Once you have deleted all the remaining apps (That had corrupt data that was causing your long back ups!) do a hard reset. To do this hold the sleep/wake button and the home button until the red slider appears at the top of the screen. Slide it over and the phone will power off. You will again notice the spinning circle. Once it finishes wait a few seconds and power the iPhone back on by pressing the sleep/wake button.

While it is booting back up go into iTunes again turn the auto sync back on! Now connect the iPhone to the computer, let it backup and sync. Now it goes so fast you may want to cry or laugh. Now after it finishes go back to the applications tab. Click sync apps again, but make sure you have the 2nd circle checked. This box is sync selected apps. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked! Now slowly begin adding apps back to the iPhone. I have done as many as 5 at a time. Check the boxes then click apply, then sync. It will backup then add the applications and sync all other information. After the sync you may notice that little spinning circle is next to your 3G icon on the top right hand side. Let it finish spinning before you add the next app.

Here is the kicker! DO NOT update or install apps from the phone! Only use iTunes to install and or update apps until they get the bug fixed!

iPhone Backup - A possible solution

I have a piece of advice that may or may not apply to everyone.

As we all know,  the iPhone backups take a ridiculous amount of time. (half hour to hour most of the time).  I may have found a fix for this.  Just the other day,  I restored my iPhone, but NOT from a backup.   it was a clean wipe, and then immediately installed 2.0.2 before any usage.  I then transfered my desired applications,  which took way to long, and then began inputting my data. I have backed up 5 times since the complete restore, and each time, the back up took only a matter of about 3-4 min.

I am not sure if it was the restore that fixed this problem, or something else that I am not aware of, but it is definitely 100 times better now that I don't have to wait an hour to back up my iPhone.

I hope this works for others!

Bodyguardz for iPhone (original)

I ordered bodyguardz for iPhone on Sunday and received it in the mail yesterday.  Last night I watched the instruction video's on how to install with best results.  The video is on youtube,  but can also be found here www.bodyguardz.com  Application was easy,  took about 15 min.  I allowed it to dry over night, and this morning when I checked it out,  I was extremely pleased with its results.  The iPhone feels even more secure in my hand,  meaning even less likely to slip. It gives it a kind of "grip" feel. Also,  I previously had a scratch on my screen, and with this covering, it becomes less noticeable. I definitely feel this was a good purchase of only 25 dollars,  after a week or two of using it,  I will post my review and well as rate it.

Severe Weather

After an interesting night of work last night, the storm that ravaged the Chicago land area has returned this morning. As I drive to work in Crestwood Illinois, storm damage is appearent in most every direction. Wether it be poles down, trees down, or power outages. This even extends to gas stations that where forced to close due to weather.

After a week of hardcore usage on my iPhone first generation's new software,  I am ready to say that this upgrade is the turning point of the iPhone.  It is no longer a fancy, overpriced cell phone with iPod and Internet features. This device is the most capable mobile computing device available. With an interface even smoother than the Macintosh desktop operating system.  Although the operating systems behind both devices are the same, the ability to literally touch the information brings a whole new and more functional aspect to computing. With iPhone 2.0 software, the ability to use native applications is now available. These applications are extraordinarily useful.  For instance, the facebook app for the iPhone I have found to run much smoother and quicker, as well as more pleasing to the eye than its comparable web app. Although facebook (and others) have spent time optimizing their websites for the iPhone, the native apps are truly superior, and will continue to improve as updates are released.  On the flip side, with the new software update (2.0) I have noticed my iPhone being a bit buggier than it use to.  I have confidence that Apple will patch the holes, and in a timely manner as they did with iPhone 1.0.  Also, with many applications, as you open them, or attempt to use them, the iPhone may restart, or the app will return you to the home screen.  These issues are bugs in the apps made by third party vendors, and those vendors who are faithful in updating their work will soon work out the bugs.  This is new software, and a platform that no developers are completely familiar with yet.  The same problems occurred on both the Macintosh Desktop applications, and the Windows desktop applications.  Give it a few weeks and many of the applications with be patched and working to their full potential.
